How to Use This Calculator
1
Measure your waist correctly
For the Navy method, measure your waist at the navel for men, or at the smallest point (natural waist) for women. Keep the tape horizontal. Exhale normally — do not suck in your stomach.
2
Measure neck and hips
Neck: measure just below the larynx (Adam's apple) with the tape slanting slightly downward. Hips (women only): measure at the widest point of your hips/buttocks. Keep the tape horizontal and snug but not compressing.
3
Interpret your body fat percentage
Essential fat (necessary for survival) is 2–5% for men and 10–13% for women. Athletic ranges are 6–13% (men) and 14–20% (women). Average healthy ranges are 14–24% (men) and 21–31% (women). These are general guidelines — optimal ranges vary by age.
