How to Use This Calculator

1
What is lean body mass?
Lean Body Mass (LBM) is your total body weight minus all fat mass. It includes skeletal muscle, bones, organs, blood, skin, and water. It is NOT the same as muscle mass alone — muscle is the largest component but not the only one. LBM is also called Fat-Free Mass (FFM).
2
Where to find your body fat percentage
You can use the Body Fat Calculator (US Navy method) on this site, get a DEXA scan (most accurate), or use body fat calipers (good for tracking change). Smart scales that estimate body fat via bioelectrical impedance are convenient but often inaccurate by 3–5%.
3
Why LBM matters for fitness
LBM is used to calculate protein needs, medication dosing, and training load. Preserving LBM during weight loss is critical — muscle drives resting metabolism. A good fat-loss program shows body weight decreasing while LBM stays constant or increases.
