How to Use This Calculator
1. Measure your bed length and width in feet.
2. Choose depth — 2–3" is standard for weed suppression; 4" for slopes or hot climates.
3. The calculator gives cubic yards (for bulk delivery) and bag counts (for store-bought).
Note: Mulch compacts 10–15% after settling. Order slightly more if you want full coverage all season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bulk mulch typically runs $25–$65 per cubic yard delivered, depending on type (hardwood, dyed, pine bark). Bagged mulch at stores is usually 2× the price per cubic yard but convenient for small areas.
2–3" is ideal for established beds. Avoid "volcano mulching" around trees (piling against the trunk) — keep it 6" away from tree bases.
Hardwood mulch lasts 1–2 years before decomposing. Pine and cedar last longer (2–3 years) due to natural oils.
