Texture (Wet Mix) Calculator
Calculate bags and water ratios for spray and hand-applied wall textures.
How to Use This Calculator
1. Enter the wall or ceiling area in square feet.
2. Select your texture style — each has a different wet mix ratio and coverage rate.
3. Select bag size (most hopper-gun texture comes in 50 lb bags).
Tip: Mix consistency matters more than exact ratios — target a thick pancake-batter consistency for most sprayed textures. Test on cardboard before spraying walls.
Real-World Examples
500 ÷ 200 coverage = 3 bags (50 lb), ~150 lbs dry mix
800 ÷ 150 = 6 bags (50 lb)
Frequently Asked Questions
Orange peel should be about the consistency of thick paint or heavy cream. Too thin = runs; too thick = clogs the gun. Aim for 25–45 PSI on a hopper gun.
Skip trowel and Santa Fe finishes are typically hand-applied and mixed to a thicker consistency. Hopper-gun textures (orange peel, knockdown, popcorn) require a compressor and hopper gun.
Most spray textures are dry to the touch in 30–60 minutes. Full cure for painting over typically takes 24 hours in normal humidity conditions.
