How to Use This Calculator
1
Measure your waist correctly
Measure at the narrowest point of your torso, usually just above the belly button and below the rib cage. Stand relaxed, exhale normally, and keep the tape horizontal. Do not compress the skin.
2
Measure your hips correctly
Measure at the widest point of your hips and buttocks, keeping the tape horizontal. This is typically at the level of the greater trochanter (hip bone protrusion). Wear thin clothing or measure directly on skin.
3
Understand the WHO risk thresholds
The WHO classifies WHR above 0.90 (men) and 0.85 (women) as high risk for metabolic complications including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. WHR captures abdominal (visceral) fat distribution, which is more metabolically dangerous than subcutaneous fat.
